If you lived a heart-based life, how would that affect…well ,everything? If you really came from the heart, if you were standing on a solid foundation of love and compassion, how would that affect how you show up in the world? How would that shape your perceptions?
It doesn’t take much time pondering questions like these to realize what a profound effect it could have. Which is precisely the reason for the recent evolution of the Ripple Revolution model. It’s still about living an energized life and putting that energy to work out in the world, but now, at the center of it all, is the Heart Base.
Heart Base defined
Your Heart Base is where love and compassion live. It has a dual focus. One is externally directed at the people and nature you encounter in the world around you. The other is internally directed through self-love and self-compassion.
When I talk about love here, I’m not talking about the attachment-riddled romantic love that often comes to mind when people think of love. I’m talking about capital L Love, deep love, unconditional love, love that simply loves without making it a transaction.
Have you ever been moved by the depth of caring you feel for a baby in your arms? Or felt a deep up-swelling of desire to help someone in need? Then you’ve had a taste of some of the ways the love I’m talking about shows up in your life.
The impact of heart-based living
As I write this, I’m aware that it all risks sounding a bit fluffy, but it’s not. It’s absolutely not. When you have love and compassion as your foundation, it filters out into every corner of your life. It changes how you feel. It shifts your perceptions. It affects the choices you make and the actions you take. It changes how you relate to people and how people relate to you. It affects you in every way, emotionally, physically, and energetically.
The importance of self-love and self-compassion
Love and compassion for yourself is every bit as important as the externally-directed variety. You could even make a case that self-love and self-compassion is the heart of the Heart Base. You can’t give what you don’t have, and at some point, if you don’t have those for yourself, your well will run dry and you won’t have them to offer the rest of the world.
Cultivating love and compassion
We all have that love, but it’s an unfortunate truth that we live in a culture that doesn’t place much emphasis on bringing it to the fore. So most of us are relegated to the little glimpses we get along the way. Going forward with this blog, I’ll be exploring the idea of living a heart-based life, the impact it has, and how to cultivate that heart space.
